On March 27 Arrowhead Stadium and Kansas City were announced as the host of an International Champions Cup match between FC Bayern Munich and AC Milan which will be played on Tuesday, July 23rd. A press conference was held on Tuesday, April 2nd to present more information about the Cup and the teams set to appear this summer at the home of the KC Chiefs. Interest in the match continues to grow and will increase next week when tickets go on sale to the public on Tuesday, April 9.

The International Champions Cup is the world’s premier annual summer soccer tournament featuring the top international clubs playing across North America, Europe and Asia. 2019 is the seventh year of the event featuring 12 clubs playing 18 matches in 16 cities. With the hashtag “Champions meet here” Kansas City will be hosting five-time European Champion FC Bayern and seven-time European champion AC Milan. Relevant Sports Group operates the International Champions Cup and each year they seek out the best soccer markets in the country.

Kansas City with hopes of hosting games being played in the 2026 World Cup is happy to be selected for this Cup event. Kansas City Chiefs president Mark Donovan sees this Cup match as “an international showcase for the stadium and area soccer fans.” Donovan added he is “Very excited about this summer.” Not only are members of the Chiefs administration happy about this upcoming match but Chiefs players too. KC Chiefs place-kicker Harrison Butker appeared at the press conference and admitted he is “Super excited to see these two teams come to KC on July 23rd.” Butker added “I’ve seen other international team soccer matches played in past summers in USA.”

Area soccer fans can expect to hear more details about this Cup and the match played in KC as the event draws closer. Till then fans will continue to look forward to being at Arrowhead Stadium at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd.
