Family and friends of former Lee’s Summit West and Washburn University football player Dwane Simmons have organized the DeesWorld Back to School Backpack Giveaway in his memory.
The organization sends out this message to the community by way of a Wish List on amazon.com:
“Thank you for your interest in supporting DeesWorlds’ 1st Annual Backpack Giveaway. Although we are saddened by our loss, we are excited about the opportunity to give a child a reason to smile as they prepare for their first day of school. Nearly 15 million children arrive to school every year without school supplies. With Your Help We Will Make a Difference.
We have partnered with Agape Pamajo, Faith International Church, and Crossroads Academy to identify children in need. Each child will receive basic school supplies, a handwritten note of encouragement; written with love, a backpack, and hot lunch on the day of the event. Families are invited to hang around to dance, laugh, and/or smile with us. We Can’t Do This Alone. Thank You for Saying, “Yes”.
