Not many players that get to play pro hockey can hear their name called every time someone talks about the sport. That is the case for Kansas City Mavericks rookie Goaltender Hayden Hawkey.

Hawkey, who spent last season playing for Providence College, got to see action pretty quick this season as he started the Mavericks season opener at Tulsa on Oct. 11. While a student at Providence, Hawkey was a finance major.

The Parker, Colorado native has a new team given nickname of “Hawks.” Back home in Parker cheering him on is Hawks mom and dad along with a brother and sister. Hawkey’s favorite pro sports team is the Chicago Bears due to spending time growing up in Chicago area.

Hawks favorite hockey memory so far happened just last year when his college team made the NCAA Frozen Four. Providence lost to Minnesota-Duluth at the event. For Hawkey it was a cool experience playing at the home of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

Hawks first put on a pair of skates at just four years old. Hawkey enjoys visiting Netflix website every day. If not in pro hockey today he would be doing something with personal wealth management. Hawks says his favorite foods is “Anything his mom makes.” Hawkey’s favorite sports movie is “Friday Night Lights.” Following his playing days Hawks hopes to be remembered as “someone who made a lasting impact.”

Check out Hawkey and the rest of the Mavericks when the Mavericks host division rival Wichita Thunder on Friday, Nov. 1. The fun begins when the puck drops inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena at 7:05 p.m.
