A Lee’s Summit man has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter for causing the death of Sherman L. Thompson in a vehicular accident in Lee’s Summit this May, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Todd A. Selby, dob: 10/8/1985, faces Involuntary Manslaughter 2nd Degree.*

According to court records, the defendant caused the death of Sherman L. Thompson by colliding with the victim’s vehicle while driving at an excessive speed on SW 3rd Street in Lee’s Summit.

A Lee’s Summit police investigation determined that the defendant’s vehicle, according to data from the vehicle’s air bag control module, was traveling 68 mph at 3.6 seconds prior to the air bag’s deployment.

The speed limit on SW 3rd Street at the location of the collision is 35 mph. The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded the victim died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries sustained in the traffic collision.
