The home of the Kansas City Mavericks got an upgrade before the 2019-20 season with the addition of two large video boards located on the east and west sides of the arena. When Mavericks fans look at these new video boards on game nights there is a great chance they will see the name Justin Woods on them.

Woodsy as his new teammates call him is having a successful season so far putting him at the top of several team statistical categories. Justin is now in his second full season as a pro hockey player, spending last year with the Jacksonville Icemen.

Woodsy claims his favorite pro sports team is the NHL’s Washington Capitols, this is due to Alex Ovechkin is his favorite NHL player to follow. Justin’s hometown is Fairbanks, Alaska, where his mom, dad, a stepdad along with two older sisters and one younger brother root him on from home.

Woodsy’s favorite hockey memory so far is when he won a Junior A Challenge back in the 2012-13 season. The challenge pitted a USA junior team against one from Canada. The right-handed defenseman first put on a pair of skates at age eight. This was unlike other kids his age but he “Didn’t want to jump right in.” Woodsy loves to visit the website Instagram on a daily basis.

If not in pro hockey today Justin would be trying to become a major league baseball player, as he loves the game of baseball. Woodsy also loved the movie “Miracle” his favorite sports movie. Following his playing days Justin wishes to be remembered as “being a good example to others.” Favorite part of the Christmas holiday season for Woodsy is “get together each Christmas with my large family.”

Check out Woodsy and the rest of the Kansas City Mavericks one last time in 2019 on New Year’s Eve when the Mavs host their division rival Wichita Thunder. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
