Brian T. Austerman, a 20-year Lee’s Summit R-7 School District resident, father, and public servant has officially declared his candidacy for the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education in the April 7, 2020 election.

“My wife and I have three girls who go to Lee’s Summit R-7 Schools, and I feel compelled to get involved so they, and every other child in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, receive the best education possible,” Austerman said. “We have so many amazing teachers and resources in this district, and I want to ensure that our administrative policies and governance does not impede our top priority – the education of our students.”

Austerman is an Assistant Fire Chief at the Lee’s Summit Fire Department, where he has been employed in a variety of duties for the last 24 years. His current position is the Assistant Chief of Administration and Support Services where his primary responsibilities include overseeing the department’s budget, making procurement decisions and managing large capital projects. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He and his wife reside in the Winterset area with their three girls and their dog, Luna.
