Darien Orellana and Tayah Bates

January 25, 2020

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln made national news recently when it returned from a 295 day (nearly 10 month) deployment – the longest since the war in Vietnam.

Two Lee’s Summit High School alumni were among those returning home.

Darien Orellana, class of 2015, and Tayah Bates, class of 2018, served on the aircraft carrier that was originally slated to return in October, but had their deployment extended due to escalating tensions with Iran.
