The Kansas City Mavericks this week started a five-game home stand with a pair of impressive victories over two Mountain Division rivals. Helping the Mavs get out of a recent slump has been the addition of Forward Charlie O’ Connor.

OC, as he is called by his new teammates, has had success in the ECHL before thanks to a stint with the Toledo Walleye. In fact Charlie says his favorite hockey memory so far was playing in the 2019 Kelly Cup finals with Toledo. OC and Toledo came up short in the series which leaves him burning to go back and win the Kelly Cup.

The right-handed forward came to the Mavericks in a trade with the Norfolk Admirals back on January 19. Charlie is in his third pro season having spent two years with Toledo prior to moving on to Norfolk at the start of the 2019-20 season.

OC’s favorite pro sports team is the NFL’s Chicago Bears, this is due to being from that area. Charlie’s hometown is Oak Grove Village, Illinois. His mom, dad, two brothers and a sister root him on from home. OC first put on a pair of skates at age four. Charlie’s favorite website to visit daily is Instagram.

If not in pro hockey today Charlie feels he would be coaching hockey on some level. OC is quick to admit his favorite sports movie is “42.” Following his playing days Charlie wishes to be remembered as a hard-nosed work horse. Now that he is here in KC he wants to check out the downtown Kansas City area and just drive around.

Check out OC and the rest of the Mavericks on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host the Utah Grizzlies. As always the fun begins inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
