The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Board of Education approved the employment of four administrators for currently open positions, effective July 1, 2020, at the Board’s March 12th meeting.

Christy Barger

Christy Barger, currently the Interim District Administrator managing the LSR7 Equity Plan and the Executive Director of Assessment and Data Analysis for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, will serve as the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Equity and Student Services beginning July 1, 2020.

Dr. Barger has worked in education for 22 years including 21 years within the Lee’s Summit School District. She previously worked in the Raymore-Peculiar School District as Director of 7-12 Curriculum & Assessment. Before her tenure at Ray-Pec, Dr. Barger served as a communications art instructor and then assistant principal at Lee’s Summit High School for a total of 12 years. A Lee’s Summit resident, Dr. Barger earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Communications Studies and her Missouri and Iowa teaching certifications from Cornell College, her master’s degree in education administration from the University of Kansas (KU) and her doctorate of education and Missouri Superintendent Certification from KU.

Rachel Johnson

Rachel Johnson, currently the Assistant Principal at Greenwood Elementary and Longview Farm Elementary, will serve as Principal for Greenwood Elementary School beginning July 1, 2020.

Ms. Johnson has worked for the Lee’s Summit School District since 2005. Before becoming assistant principal at Longview Farm and Greenwood, she served as a Beginning Teacher Assistance Program Facilitator, a graduate instructor and a general education teacher at Hawthorn Hill Elementary for second, third and sixth grades. Ms. Johnson belongs to the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals and the Missouri Leadership Development System. A Lee’s Summit resident, Dr. Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from William Jewell College, her master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri and her Education Specialist degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Patrick Shelton

Patrick Shelton, currently the Customized Learning Coordinator at Parkway School District in Chesterfield, MO, will serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education beginning July 1, 2020.

Dr. Shelton has worked in education for 24 years. Before his tenure with the Parkway School District, he served as an elementary school principal and as a director of vocal music. Dr. Shelton belongs to several professional organizations and is a founding member of the St. Louis Area English Learning Partnership, a member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, a member of the National Association of Gifted Children and a member of Teaching English as a Second Language. Dr. Shelton earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Culver-Stockton College, his master’s in education administration from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville (SIUE), his specialist’s degree in educational leadership from SIUE and his doctorate degree in educational leadership from SIUE.

Kevin Whaley

Kevin Whaley, currently the Director of Instructional Technology for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, will serve as the district’s Executive Director of Technology beginning July 1, 2020.

Dr. Whaley has worked for the Lee’s Summit School District since 2012. He previously served as an assistant principal and activities director in the St. Joseph School District, as a technology coordinator and classroom integration specialist and social studies teacher in the North Kansas City School District. A Lee’s Summit resident, Dr. Whaley earned his bachelor’s degree in history and his secondary social studies teacher certification from Park University, his master’s of education in information science and learning technologies from the University of Missouri (MU), his education specialist degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and his doctorate of education from MU.
