Lee’s Summit High School was a busy place this week thanks to level 1 returning to play conditioning for a number of sports. Tennis, football, soccer and cross country all started early on Monday morning with coaches guiding teams through the initial workout steps. On Tuesday the volleyball, softball and both boys and girls basketball teams started their conditioning programs.

These summer conditioning workouts take place at various spots around the campus. Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Jessica Crawford the girls basketball team is using the west parking lot for their conditioning workouts. The team is set to meet three times a week on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday the first day of workouts a total of 11 players showed up with three of them being freshman. The hour long workouts start at 6:30 a.m., but one player arrived at 5:45. “The energy the team began the workouts with” pleased Assistant coach Dan Schnell. In addition to coaches Crawford and Schnell, assistant coach Ben Vinck is also on site each morning to work with the players.

Other spots where teams can be seen preparing for next season include the tennis courts, south end of the soccer field, the football field and the use of the Browning Street parking lot. A couple more teams are using the Pleasant Lea Middle School track to hold their team conditioning workouts. Both players and coaches alike agree it’s great to be back together again as the teams return to work with the hope of a successful season.
