A 19-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Lucas Jester on Aug. 10, 2020, in an incident described as drug deal gone bad, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Aaron Michael Hays, dob: 2/3/2001, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Delivery of a Controlled Substance.*

According to court records, Raytown Police officers on Aug. 10, 2020, were dispatched to the 8400 block of Lane Drive where they found 19-year-old Lucas N. Jester, deceased in a vehicle. He had been shot. A witness told police that the defendant admitted being with Jester when he was shot and killed. Video confirmed that the defendant was a passenger in the vehicle with Jester at the scene. The defendant fled on foot after the shooting. The witness stated that the defendant called Jester’s death the result of a “drug deal gone bad.”

Prosecutors requested a bond $150,000 cash.

*Charges are only accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or has pleaded.
