John Evans Drake

John Evans Drake, 79, of Lee’s Summit, was born, September 23, 1940, in St. Louis, the son of Jacob and Ruth (Evans) Drake.  He departed this life and met his Savior, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at his home surrounded with love and family.

John was a 1958 Camdenton High School graduate later attending the University of Missouri in Kansas City earning a Bachelor’s degree in business.

In 1959 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Boone and to this union two children were born; they later divorced.  In 1967, he was united in marriage to Constance “Connie” Simons in Sunrise Beach; she preceded him in death on February 8, 2001.  In 2002 he was united in marriage to Linda (Hopkins) Harris in Lee’s Summit; she survives.

John was employed as a building inspector for the City of Lee’s Summit.  He was a Master Plumber and also owned and operated House Doctor Plumbing.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.  His true passion in life was investing in peoples spiritual lives.  He was the founder of Opened Door Ministries in Laurie, Missouri and was an active member of Eagle Creek Church.

John was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Linda; six children, David (and Kathy) Drake, Terre Gruetze, Lori (and Bill) Sanders, Eric (and Michelle) Drake, Amy (and Jeff) Owings, and Emily Smith; six stepchildren,  Mike (and Rita) Harris, Liz (and Fred) Franks, Steve Harris, Matt (and Sheri) Harris, John Harris, and Paul (and Lori) Harris; 28 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Dan (and Cheryl Husky) Drake; other relatives and a host of many friends.

A celebration of John’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Eagle Creek Church (125 SE Stuart Rd, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64082).  Pastor Matt Harris will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in the Dale Blair Cemetery, Camdenton.
