U.S. Representative Sam Graves (MO-06) announced that Ryan McCain of Lee’s Summit, a student at Lee’s Summit North High School and Christopher Langston, of Lee’s Summit, a student at Blue Springs South High School would be receiving nominations to the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Each year, members of Congress are tasked with selecting qualified students from their respective districts to attend one of America’s prestigious military academies.

“I am deeply proud of these extraordinary young men and women who have stepped forward to serve our great nation,” said Rep. Graves, who notified each student by phone of their nomination. “Each of them has excelled as a leader both in the classroom and in their communities. I know all of them will go on to make North Missouri and our entire country proud at their respective service academies and beyond.”

Also receiving nominations to military academies were:
Owen Carrillo, Liberty – US Military Academy (Liberty High School)
Aidan Dougherty, Kansas City – US Naval Academy (North Kansas City High School)
Dylan Howard, Kansas City – US Military Academy (Staley High School)
Maddie Klippenstein, Platte City – US Naval Academy (Platte County High School)
Brock Miller, Paris – US Air Force Academy and US Merchant Marine Academy (Paris High School)
Madison Schmude, Kansas City – US Merchant Marine Academy (Staley High School)

The nomination system is a very competitive process. Various military academies hold extremely selective admission standards. To help in the nomination process, Rep. Graves created an Academy Nominations Review Board. The board, made up of service academy graduates and citizens of the Sixth District, interviewed and reviewed all applicants before making final recommendations to Rep. Graves.

Students interested in being appointed to a service academy in the future can find out more information by contacting Graves’ district office in Kansas City or by visiting www.graves.house.gov.
