During the off season while assembling this year’s team, Kansas City Mavericks Head Coach Tad O’Had was looking for “OKG” Our Kind of Guy.” During the first six games of the season it’s obvious to Mavs fans why Coach O’Had signed forward Lane Scheidl.

Schieds, as he is called by his new teammates, continues to earn points in consecutive games whether it’s on a goal or an assist. Lane continued his strong start to the 2020-21 season with an assist in the Mavericks last home game a loss to the Wichita Thunder.

Schieds is entering his eighth year in professional hockey with five of them being played here in the ECHL. Lane hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where his parents and an older brother root him on from home. Schieds favorite pro sports team is the NFL’s Miami Dolphins who are located many miles away from his hometown. Lane says it’s “Because up in Canada you are allowed to pick a team.” Like many Canadian youth Schieds first put on a pair of skates pretty early in his young life at the age of two.

Lane’s favorite hockey memory so far is going to the finals while playing over in Europe. If not in pro hockey today Schieds feels he would still be involved in the sport as a coach or in administration. Lane’s favorite food is pierogies.

Schieds favorite sports movie is “Warrior” that came out in 2011 and starred Nick Nolte among others. Following his playing days he wishes to be remembered as someone with a good work ethic, a kind of guy you want on your team.

Having first year head coach Tad O’Had sign Schiedl and come to KC this season he says, “I appreciate it”, “I Enjoyed our talk during the offseason. I pride myself on being a good teammate.”

Schiedl and the rest of the Mavericks are on the road in the midst of a seven game road trip. Mavericks will visit Utah for a three-game series starting on Friday, Jan. 15.
