While many Kansas City area sports fans are cheering for KC Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid to win a championship, these same fans may soon be cheering for another Reid to do the very same thing.

Veteran Forward Brodie Reid joined the Kansas City Mavericks for the 2020-21 season to help first year head coach Tad O’Had have a successful start to his coaching career.

The 31-year-old Reid is now in his 10th season involved in professional hockey, but only his first full season competing in the ECHL. Reider, as his new teammates call him, hails from Delta, British Columbia. Reid’s favorite pro sports team is the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks who serve as his hometown team.

Reider’s favorite hockey memory so far was playing a game in Boston while at Northeastern University. Reid was fortunate to play in a hockey tournament held at the arena that serves as home to the Boston Bruins. Reider like many Canadien children put on skates at an early age. Thanks to his parents Reid first put on a pair of skates at four years old

If not in pro hockey today Reider feels he would be coaching hockey to stay involved in the sport he loves. Reid loves Italian food as he admits he would “eat anything Italian.” Reider’s favorite sports movie is “Remember the Titans.” Following his playing days Reid would like to be remembered for “being a good teammate and a good guy to be around.”

Yes this Reid is aware of another REID being involved in pro sports in Kansas City. Regarding sharing the name with Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid, Reider says “it’s cool for sure, always fun to hear the same name.”

The Kansas City Mavericks are in Utah where they will play fellow Mountain Division member Utah on a Special Martin Luther King Day game. The Mavs vs Grizzlies face off at 6:10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18.
