A 39-year-old Kansas City man who was a suspect in multiple property crimes on Thursday faces multiple felony charges for fleeing from police at high speeds and firing a. weapon at police officers, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Travis S. White, dob: 9/11/1981, faces four counts of the felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and five counts of Armed Criminal Action.

According to court records filed late today, the defendant was a suspect in multiple property crimes on Thursday,  Jan. 28 in south Kansas City.

Witnesses gave a description of the defendant’s truck and officers attempted to stop it early today but the defendant fled at high speeds, firing shots at Kansas City and Raytown police officers pursuing him.

Earlier, the defendant also appeared to fire at construction workers. At least one police vehicle took evasive maneuvers to avoid the shots.

At one point, the vehicle being pursued by police went the wrong way on Highway 350, while police vehicles kept up with it in parallel lanes. Early today, the defendant’s vehicle became disabled and he was taken into custody, along with a female passenger. A shotgun was recovered from his vehicle, along with shell casings. 

The property crimes remain under investigation. Prosecutors requested a $100,000 cash bond.
