LEE’S SUMMIT, MO— On Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 4:26 a.m. the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1500 Block of NE Ivory Lane. Several neighbors reported heavy smoke coming from the house. One neighbor thought the occupant of the house was out of town.

When the fire department arrived, heavy smoke was coming from a one-story, single-family residence. There were no occupants outside.

Fire crews determined there was a fire in the basement that had significantly weakened the floor above. Crews initially attacked the fire from a defensive position outside. After the fire was under control, firefighters entered the building for final extinguishment and to search the house to confirm no one was home. The fire was under control at 5:54 a.m.

Investigators from the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Lee’s Summit Police Department were called to investigate the fire.

The fire originated in the basement and is believed to be electrical in origin. The Lee’s Summit Police Department is investigating a small marijuana growing operation in the basement.
