Rachel Segobia, Lee’s Summit CARES executive director, recently announced her resignation from the nonprofit organization. Segobia, who has worked at Lee’s Summit CARES since 2015, has accepted a leadership position at a metropolitan-area nonprofit organization with her new job beginning in late February.

“It has been an incredible opportunity for me to serve as director of Lee’s Summit CARES, and I wish to express my gratitude to so many who have given their support to both the organization and to me over the past five years — staff, board members, partners and volunteers,” Segobia said. “While I am eager to begin a new stage in my career, my departure comes with a heavy heart. I will sincerely miss you all, the friends I have made along the way, and the impactful work we accomplished together for our community.”

Monica Meeks, who has served as the organization’s program director since 2013, was named interim director for Lee’s Summit CARES by the organization’s Board of Directors. Meeks began her career in the journalism and marketing fields before spending more than two decades as an executive with national, regional and local nonprofits. She earned a bachelor’s degree in radio and television broadcasting from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a master’s of business administration, emphasis in nonprofit leadership, from the University of Missouri. A Lee’s Summit resident, Meeks serves on a number of state and local boards that support drug-free youth.

“We are grateful to Rachel for her leadership and dedication to Lee’s Summit CARES and wish her well on her next endeavor,” said Monte Stull, president of the organization’s Board of Directors. “The board has already begun the hiring process to bring a new executive director and is committed to identifying someone who will lead with skill, passion and innovation. We are working with Rachel, Monica and the Lee’s Summit CARES team to ensure a quick and seamless transition.”

Candidates interested in applying for the executive director job are encouraged to email a cover letter and resume to LSCares@rediscovermh.org. When the position opens, applicant information will be posted at npconnect.org.
