While spending time with the Worcester Railers veteran defenseman Connor Doherty won a community service award, now Doherty is here in Kansas City ready to win over Mavericks fans with another strong season competing in the ECHL.

Now in this fourth year in professional hockey the 27-year-old Doherty is looking to be successful in his new home under first year head coach Tad O’ Had. Dotes, as his new teammates call him, loves the NHL’s Boston Bruins a team he has followed while growing up. Doherty is from Holden, Massachusetts where his sister, a brother-in-law and a brother all watch his games online.

The left hander’s favorite hockey memory so far was three years ago when he scored his first professional goal while playing for the Railers. Dotes still has the puck in his possession and as a bonus the goal came against Adirondack a rival of the Railers. Doherty first put on a pair of skates at age four and in first grade he began playing organized youth hockey.

If not in pro hockey today Dotes would be putting his master’s degree to good use in the finance or wealth management field. Yes, Doherty has a master’s degree as he completed his bachelor’s degree requirements in his senior year of college. However Dotes still had a year left in hockey eligibility so he transferred to play one more year and attend graduate school.

Doherty loves sushi and Chinese as his go to foods. Dotes favorite sports movie is “Miracle” and he loves the sports comedy “Semi-Pro.” Following his playing days Doherty hopes to be remembered as someone who brought good energy to the locker room and on the ice.

Having played a good number of college hockey games Dotes still enjoys watching a game or two on network TV when his schedule allows. Doherty may have the time for the next two weeks as he misses a six-game road trip for the Mavericks due to a recent injury to his finger.

Catch the Mavericks in action when they return home on Tuesday, Feb. 23 to host rival Wichita Thunder. The fun begins inside Cable Dahmer Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
