A 24-year-old Independence woman has been charged in the fatal shooting earlier today of Michael T Wright in a Raytown, MO, apartment, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Daizhane M. Redmond, dob: 2/4/1997, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*

According to court records filed today,  Raytown police officers responded to the 9100 block of W. 87th Street in Raytown on an armed disturbance shortly before 2 a.m. today. Just before that, the victim, Michael T. Wright, had called police and told them that his girlfriend had a gun and “she’s trying to kill me.” The defendant, who was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, told Raytown police detectives that she shot the victim after he moved toward her inside the apartment. He told her not to shoot, she told detectives, but she fired one shot and he fell to the floor and stated, “I’m dead. I’m dead.”

Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000 cash only.
