The Lee’s Summit North girls soccer team took to their home field on Tuesday, May 25 to host a Class 4 Sectional round game against St. Teresa’s Academy. When the playoff game ended the Broncos left the field after suffering a 4-0 season ending loss. The Broncos entered the night coming off from an impressive showing the previous week as the team claimed the Class 4 District 13 championship.

It took almost 15 minutes of play before a score was made as the visiting Stars took a 1-0 lead with 31:45 left in the first half on a goal from Katherine Gibson. The Stars would strike again just before halftime with a goal from Emily Franklin to make it 2-0 at 4:40 left in the half. In the second half the Stars would score two more goals, both scored by Gibson to complete a hat trick for the St. Teresa senior.

The loss ended the 2021 season for the Broncos with a record of 9-13. Before the sectional round loss the Broncos had outscored their opponents 12-0 to win two district tournament games. Broncos head coach Ryan Kelley said the 2021 team “showed a lot of grit, they stuck together and really grew.” Kelley added “you could see the growth come out in the matches.” Kelley feels the Broncos “played very well at end of season and showed how much heart they had.”

The LS North girls soccer program say goodbye to six seniors this year. Coach Kelley said of his senior group “They set the tone, played with heart.” The six are Ashley Borron, Cassidy Calvin, Lauren Draney, Jillian Frogge, Halli Martin and Amelia Roller.

For the Broncos returning next season they look forward to outshooting and outscoring their competition in front of large crowds at the renovated Broncos Stadium.
