It’s summer time in Kansas City and for many area college baseball players that means playing some Ban Johnson Baseball. The Milgram Mustangs are just one of the teams competing in the Ban Johnson league in 2022. When the Mustangs take the field there is a heavy Lee’s Summit area presence on display.

Getting the honor to lead the area talent is Kevin Shaw the head coach of the Mustangs. Shaw has help this summer from assistant coach Roman Sherman. Some of the area names that will be familiar to local prep baseball fans are left-handed pitcher Kellan Shilt, C/1B Parker Griffith, C/OF Jared Fulgham, 3B/OF Avery Williams and OF Grant Green.

Coach Shaw said of his second baseman Peyton Lewis from Blue Springs is “very athletic, excelled his freshman year at Baker, is carrying over into a hot start to this summer with us.” Avery Williams, a LS West product, “has been hot of late” according to Coach Shaw. Avery is currently hitting .295. Avery is thought of as a middle of the order hitter.

Parker Griffith, a former LS West Titan, according to Coach Shaw “was hot earlier this year.” Grant Green and Griffith have served bench roles this season. Pitchers Kellan Shilt and John Brady “have both been in the starting rotation throwing every week” according to coach Shaw adding “both have had really good starts.” Shilt now attends Rockhurst University after playing high school baseball at Lee’s Summit North.

The Mustangs season in the Ban Johnson league continues on Monday, Jul. 11 when they host the KC Knights at 6 p.m. The Mustangs game will be on Field 3 at the Creekside Baseball Complex in Parkville, MO where all Ban Johnson league games are being played this summer.

The league championship game is set for Monday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. The title game will be played at Kaufman Stadium the home of the Kansas City Royals. The game and parking will be free for fans to attend.
