Monica Renwick and her husband Mike Coupe have welcomed thousands of students throughout the past 40 years to their dance studio, “Monica’s School of Dance”. “The dream of owning my own dance studio all started at the age of eight when I opened my own studio in my parent’s garage teaching the neighborhood kids.”
Monica feels the secret to her success is “the loving support and encouragement from her family and working alongside her husband.” Monica and Mike want to thank their tremendously talented and artistic staff for their dedication and kindness toward our students. They also want to thank the parents, grandparents and families for their enthusiastic support. “We are truly a ‘Dance Family’.”
Monica started studying dance at the age of three and became a professional equity performer at the age of sixteen as a principal dancer and singer at Starlight Theatre. Monica has appeared in major motion pictures, national television, equity stage and touring productions as well as the, “Magic of David Copperfield at Caesars.”
She has taught and performed throughout the United States and Canada as a master dance instructor and judge for Starpower, Dance Masters of America, IDC, Elite Dance Cup and Dance Olympus. Monica’s credits include choreographer for Starlight Theater, Worlds of Fun, Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit West and Lee’s Summit North High School musicals, The Wonderful World of Christmas, Christmas in the Sky and Master Teacher for Walt Disney World.
Monica and her studio have been featured in Dance Spirit, Dance Teacher and Dance Magazine. Monica’s School of Dance was voted by the Kansas City Parent Magazine as “One of the top family friendly studio’s in Kansas City.” They were also selected as one of the top 50 dance studios in the United States by the editors of Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher Magazine of New York. Monica and Mike are very proud to be voted the 1997 Small business of the Year by the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. Monica said, “My professional career, experience and teaching have helped open many doors of opportunity for my students to pursue professional careers. I am very proud to have helped my students receive prestigious scholarships to colleges and professional dance academies.”
Monica’s students credits include: Broadway Shows, America’s Got Talent, Opening Act for Lady Gaga, Dancer with Beyoncé’s National tour, Walt Disney World, Disneyland Disney Cruise Ships, Tokyo Disney, American Idol, Opryland, Hollywood Bowl, Las Vegas main showrooms, Overall National Grand Champions for National Dance Competitions, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and High School and College Dance Teams and cheerleaders. Featured performers for the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
Monica and Mike are very excited about their upcoming year. They have many fun activities planned for this year including competing at Showstopper National Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida next summer.
