Subject: One Powerful Way to Renew Your Faith in Jesus Christ: Listen to Today’s Government
Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who obey Him have good understanding.”
“I look at the university and see truth deconstructed, America loathed, good and evil inverted, elementary truths about life denied, I realize that one very powerful argument for God is that society cannot function successfully without reference to Him. So as much as I shudder when I read of another academic taking an absurd position, I also feel my faith renewed. Ironically, the worse the universities get, the greater their tribute to God.”
This is from Dennis Prager’s 2003 article ‘How I found God at Columbia’. How one’s faith be renewed by living day by day in such an ungodly culture as Columbia? Dennis explains what happened to cause this: “Out of nowhere, a biblical verse entered my mind. It was a verse from Psalm 111: ‘Wisdom begins with fear of God.’
It was no coincidence that the most morally confused institution and the one possessing the least wisdom – the university – was also society’s most secular institution. The Psalmist was right – no God, no wisdom.”
Prager explained how secularism and godlessness led him to God: “If our universities produced wise men and women, curricula of moral clarity, and professors who loved America, liberty, and truth – there is no question that my religious faith would be challenged. I would look at the temple of secularism, the university, and see so much goodness and wisdom that I would have to wonder just how important God and religion were.
Most people believe in God through the front door of faith. Now, I regularly renew my faith through the back door – I see the confusion and nihilism that godless ideas produce and my faith is restored. The consequences of secularism have been at least as powerful a force for faith in my life as religion.” He wrote this 8 years ago.
On September 1, President Biden’s unpretentious speech of godlessness and secularism should be a catalyst to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and renew our resolve to stand for the truth of the gospel.
In just one paragraph, Biden gave America three ungodly foundations of his presidency that directly opposing a biblical worldview: “MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards, backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
Ungodly foundation #1 = by “no right to choose” he means “no right to abortion on demand”. First, he is lying to us. SCOTUS ruled to put the abortion issue in the hands of each state to decide, which is Constitutional. But the #1 platform position of the Democratic Party is the right to abortion on demand. This goes completely against the Bible and the faith he claims – Catholicism! This is a secular, godless, unbiblical position.
Ungodly foundation #2 = by “no right to contraception” he means “no right to practice unrestrained sexual behavior”. Again, he is lying to us. Where in the “MAGA” platform are they proposing banning contraceptives? Biden is pushing for a secular, godless, unbiblical America – to be free to have all the unrestrained sex you want, with abortion as the solution if the unintended consequence is the woman gets pregnant.
Ungodly foundation #3 = by “no right to marry who you love” he means “no right to gay marriage”. Once again, he is lying to us. Where in the “MAGA” platform are they proposing overturning the SCOTUS 2015 decision that legalized same sex marriage? This is not an attack on “MAGA.” This is the most direct attack on the God of the Bible, who defined marriage as an institution designed for humanity, at our very creation. And that definition is a covenant relationship between a man and a woman. Our government is attacking God Himself.
What did Biden say is our greatest threat? China? Russia? Iran? No. Instead, the 75 million Americans – half our country’s population – who voted for Donald Trump: “Equality and democracy are under assault. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic. But there’s no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to this country.” Are you kidding me?
Voltaire, the French Enlightenment philosopher, is famous for saying “Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” The absurd belief that a baby in the womb has no right to life has led to the atrocity of over 55,000,000 abortions since 1973. Again, we reference the words of Dennis Prager.
“Why did so many people believe nonsense such as Marxism? Why did so many professors believe and teach the foolish notion that men and women are basically the same? Why were so many professors morally confused?” Remember the simplicity of this week’s verse, which changed Dennis Prager’s life – it is only by the fear of the Judeo-Christian God that wisdom is possible. Today’s secular government has no fear of God.
