Plenty of action this week for area high school sports fans to get their fill of the live action. The Annual Pete Hile Tournament was played at Truman High School. The Lee’s Summit West Titans girls basketball team participated in the event and had the unusual tip time of 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16. The Titans showed they were up to the task as they outlasted the Owls from Olathe West 59-53. Following that come from behind win the Titans took the floor the next night at a more normal 7 p.m. game time. The Titans fell 74-47 on Tuesday night to the host Truman Patriots.

Another basketball tournament getting a lot of attention this week was the 48th Annual Summit Grill Shootout hosted by Lee’s Summit High School. Both JV and Varsity teams were in action for the three night tourney. The host Lee’s Summit Tigers lost an opening round game to Raytown then lost on Wednesday to Columbia Rock Bridge in the team’s first two games. The LS West Titans improved to 14-1 on the season with a dominating win over Kaufman Charter and followed that up with a 65-50 win over top ten ranked Park Hill. The Titans advanced to the events title game against Ruskin.

Area wrestlers are also in tourney mode this week as the LS North Varsity team heads out of town this weekend to compete at Columbia Hickman. The JV team stayed close to home and set to compete in the two day Alan Isom Invite held at Center High School in South Kansas City. Also competing in the event is Raytown and Raytown South. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams on Saturday and medals will be given to the top three individual finishers.
