The first ever Class 1, District 7 champion in boys volleyball will be decided at LS West High School. The home of the Titans will host the District 7 tournament over four days where nine teams will compete for the coveted title. The top seed, St. Michael’s Guardians, open district play at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6 when they play the Paseo/Ruskin winner. Also at 5 p.m. is third seed Lee’s Summit North taking on their rival Lee’s Summit the number six seed. Concluding the busy evening at LS West is a pair of matches at 6:30 p.m. Number two seed Rockhurst meets number seven Belton and the host LS West Titans enters as the number five seed takes on the challenge of number four seed Grain Valley.

Heading into the final week of the regular season the records for area teams found St. Michael’s was 21-1, LS North at 18-7, host LS West checking in at 13-5 and Lee’s Summit 7-11.

For fans heading to the tournament be advised there will be two gyms in use for the tournament only on Monday, May 6. The top two seeds will play in the main gymnasium. The other two matches will be played in the north auxiliary gym.

The four winners on Monday night return to LS West the next night for the district semifinal round. Those matches will take place Tuesday at 5 and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. will be the championship match. The district winner at LS West will advance in state tournament play to meet the District 8 winner. The winner of that district, being played at Staley HS, will be the host for the Class 1 sectional round match. In all there are 18 teams in the Kansas City metro area seeking their first district championship in school history.
