The “Rock the Trail – Rock Island Ribbon Cutting” will take place on Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the 98th Street Trailhead located at 12600 E. 98th Street in Kansas City. Jackson County and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) invites local officials, community members and media to celebrate the occasion and enjoy a great day on the trail.

Join Frank White, Jr., Jackson County Executive; Theresa Galvin, Jackson County Legislative Chair; Tony Miller, Jackson County Legislator 3rd District At-Large; and Robbie Makinen, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority CEO

The first 6.4 miles of the trail stretches from Jefferson Street, west of MO-291 in Lee’s Summit, to Brickyard Road, south of Blue Parkway in Kansas City.

In addition to a new surface for walking and biking, the construction project included the rehabilitation and preservation of existing bridges at 3rd Street, Chipman Road, the Little Blue River and historic Vale Tunnel.

Jackson County acquired the 17.7-mile Rock Island Railroad Corridor in May 2016, in partnership with the KCATA to preserve the corridor for multi-modal transportation opportunities. Additional information can be found online at www.rockislandcorridor.org.
