Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. announced today that Bryan Covinsky has been appointed to serve as the next Jackson County Counselor.

“While there were highly-qualified candidates who applied, Bryan’s extensive trial and management experience stood out,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “I am confident that his values of honesty and integrity for the law, as well as his positive attitude, will serve Jackson County well.”

A practicing attorney for more than 20 years, Covinsky has extensive trial experience, which most recently includes prosecuting some of the most serious criminal cases in Jackson County as the Chief Trial Attorney of the Violent Crime Unit with the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In this role, he has professionally led and managed a team of attorneys and support staff of similar size to that of the County Counselor’s Office.

“I’d like to thank the County Executive for this tremendous opportunity,” Covinsky said. “I am excited to put my expertise to work and continue serving Jackson County in this new capacity.”

In 1996, Covinsky began his career at the Cass County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and two years later, joined the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office assigned to the drug unit. Covinsky is a graduate of the University of Kansas and earned his law degree from the University of Tulsa. His recognitions include the Victims Champion Award in 2001 and the Patrick B. Hall Trial Attorney of the Year Award in 2011.

Covinsky assumes the role of Jackson County Counselor following the expiration of the term and resignation of W. Stephen Nixon on December 31, 2018.
