INDEPENDENCE, MO – The following email was sent this morning to all entities in Jackson County as well as stakeholders:

“Jackson County Entities and Stakeholders:

It is our mission to ensure the integrity of all elections in Jackson County.  To that end, our Commissioners have voted to join with 45 counties in the Western Appellate District of Missouri to petition the court to move the April 7, 2020 election to June 2, 2020.  This petition will be filed with the court this week – possibly as early as today – and we expect to receive a decision soon after.

We will be asking the court to allow us to hold the physical election on Tuesday, June 2 with all of the same information and ballots and rules – as if the election were being held on April 7.  If approved, we intend to continue absentee voting throughout the weeks leading up to June 2 – and the last day to request a ballot be mailed would be Wednesday, May 20. 

As soon as we know the details of what the court approves or not, we will let you know right away.  As it stands, we are doing our best to continue to work toward an April 7 election just in case this is not approved.

If your entity is on the ballot, we would appreciate it if you could help us make the candidates you certified to us aware of this possible change.
