A Kansas City, Kan., man faces felony charges after he attempted to shoot at a KC Royals employee at the stadium complex, causing a lock down of the stadium Saturday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Joshua D. Newton, dob: 8/22/1997, faces Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action and Making a Terrorist Threat 1st Degree.*

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched Saturday about 11 a.m. to 1 Arrowhead Drive on a disturbance with a weapon. The victim, who works as a groundskeeper for the Kansas City Royals, told police he was disposing of grass clippings when he saw a man walking through the parking lot. The man turned toward the victim, about 100 feet away, and pulled out two handguns. The defendant fired shots at the victim as the victim ran away. Video of the incident showed the defendant walking around the stadium and holding what appears to be a gun and raising it. Social media associated with the defendant displayed threatening language related to his going to Arrowhead that day. When police took the defendant into custody, loaded handguns were found. He acknowledged pointing a gun at someone. Due to the defendant’s actions, the stadium was locked down for security reasons.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $40,000 cash only.
