A Red Friday tradition continued for the Kansas City Chiefs on a Wednesday this year as the 29th edition leading up to the 2020 season opener vs the Houston Texans. Red Friday Celebrations all over the Kansas City Metro area took place on Wednesday, Sept 9 selling Chiefs flags to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Last year along the sales of the flags resulted in a record donation of more than $500,000 to RMHC-KC. This year a more socially distant event was held with many safety protocols in place for both event volunteers and Chiefs fans.
A Lee’s Summit McDonald’s located at 1809 SE Blue Parkway served as the primary location with Chiefs cheerleaders, Chiefs mascot KC Wolf and dignitaries on site to meet and greet Chiefs fans as they stopped by to purchase their commemorative flags.
Tyler Epp, Executive VP of Business Operations for the Chiefs was not surprised by the large turnout this year even as a light rain began to fall saying, “This is Chiefs Kingdom rain or shine.” Epp says “Chiefs fans love to support a great cause.” With all the additional planning needed to pull off a Safe Red Friday event Epp said the team “did not hold more meetings this year”, Just different with all the protocols in place”. Epp added “It’s all about health and safety”.
Now that Kansas City Chiefs fans have brought home their commemorative Red Friday flags it’s time to enjoy watching the defending Super Bowl champions take the field for another NFL season.
