A Kansas City man, 32, charged in fatal shooting Sunday of Jerone Weathers outside Raytown residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Rodney D. Byrd, dob: 8/5/1988, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, Raytown police were dispatched Sunday morning to a shooting in the 6800 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Raytown. Officers found the victim, Jerone D. Weathers, in the driver seat of a vehicle. He had been mortally wounded. Police also found a large amount of what appeared to be blood on the driveway. They also detained the suspect, Rodney D. Byrd, who was on a bed in the residence. A witness identified him as the shooter. Another witness told police that the victim was observed down on the driveway after they heard a gunshot. The suspect was standing over the victim. Then the suspect dragged the victim and placed him in the vehicle. Another witness told police the victim and suspect had been arguing when the victim was shot as he walked away from the confrontation.
Prosecutors requested a $100,000 cash bond.
