On Friday, Jan. 3 the Kansas City Mavericks began a new month and a new year when they hosted division rival Allen Americans. A difference maker in December for the Mavs showed he isn’t slowing down after a calendar change. Mavericks’ veteran forward Cade Borchardt scored a second period goal that evening that turned out to be the game winning goal in a 5-2 Mavs win.

Borchardt’s game winning goal was his 21st in the 2024-25 season. The numbers continue to pile up for the talented 26 year old Minnesota native. Borchardt’s goal gave him a 10 game point streak that saw him score 11 goals and 10 assists during that time. All these impressive numbers are being noticed throughout the league as Borchardt was selected the ECHL Player of the Month for December 2024.

Borchardt had a month to remember as he began December being named ECHL Player of the Week and the right hander didn’t slow down as he ended the month as the ECHL leader in goals with 20. Mavericks head coach Tad O’Had has been enjoying his front row seat to see all of Borchardt’s achievements. O’Had calls Borchardt “fun to watch, possess the puck so well.” O’Had also praises the work of the line Borchardt plays on along with Max Andreev and Casey Carreau.

Borchardt on the Player of the Month honor “definitely an honor, definitely cool to recieve the awards.” Borchardt feels, “We are a hard line to stop.” and adds, “It starts from the d zone and my linemates.” Borchardt notes “fun to play with my linemates and we feed off each other well.” Borchardt concludes, “It’s been fun.”

For the Mavericks they hope the fun continues on the road as the Mavs are set to visit division rival Utah for a pair of games on January 10 and 11. Mavericks’ next action at home inside Cable Dahmer Arena will be January 17-18 giving fans another chance to witness Borchardt in action.
