From Charlie and Debbie Johnson

Landmark opened in the spring of 1974. In 1976 Charlie joined the crew as a floor guard and sound booth programmer, without ever skating before.

The Johnsons, who met at Landmark and bought the rink together in 1999, have always thought of their community as family.

Offering birthday and fundraising parties for school-aged children, skating at Landmark created milestones and memories. “We raised our family here, celebrated many important events with you, and always felt honored that you chose to share your time with us”, the Johnsons say in their letter to patrons.

Many rinks have struggled in recent years, but Landmark remained a popular choice for an affordable family night out for Lee’s Summit and Jackson County. One could sign a child up for skate classes or book a private event in between public skate sessions. This year COVID-19 and an uncertain future forced them to make hard choices. The Johnsons make it clear, “[Landmark 2 Skate Center] shut down for 3 months… The future is completely unknown, and the pandemic and economy do not show signs of a robust return any time soon.”

It has become harder, especially in 2020, to spend time with those we care about. Landmark 2 Skate Center gave Lee’s Summit a place to share our lives with each other for 44 years.

Landmark 2 Skate is located on Oldham Road, just off of 291 Hwy in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. For more information call 816-524-2000 or visit https://landmark2skate.com/
