Because of the inadequate parking and lack of room to test ride the bikes, local family-owned bicycle shop Bike America moved six blocks west to a location with plenty of parking and space outside.
About 24 years ago, the Alberts family decided they wanted a change from their grocery store business. When they found out about a business that was for sale, they opened a little bike shop in Overland Park, Kansas.
From there, they moved to a bigger location in Overland Park, opened a shop in Olathe, Kansas, and then bought the one in Lee’s Summit.
This bike shop, which had been located in downtown Lee’s Summit since 1994, moved to 522 SW. Third St. on Sept. 23.
Kris Wallace, store manager said customers often expressed their frustration with finding room to test ride the bikes and finding parking close to the Lee’s Summit shop’s previous location, which made it difficult to bring bikes to the shop to get repaired.
Service Manager Kevin Lange, who has worked at Bike America for 21 years, said he hopes to continue the shop’s excellent track record and customer service.
“Our goal is to continue to provide excellent customer service at the location that has easier access for customers now,” Lange said. “We have a pretty good track record, and we hope to continue that and expand upon it.”
Alberts family said they look forward to continue serving the community.
“We have supplied the community for 24 years now with our service, and we hope to continue that as the town even grows more, which hopefully will make our business grow more,” Albert said. “We look forward to taking care of the community with their bicycle needs just like before.”
For all your bike needs, visit Bike America at 522 SW Third St., Lee’s Summit or call 816-524-1819. They are open Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sunday.
