March 5, 2022

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on March 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. Donors are urgently needed to boost local supplies as the nationwide blood shortage continues into 2022.

The Community Blood Center is partnering with the Harvesters Community Food Network for the Save 1, Feed 1 campaign. During the month of March, the Community Blood Center will donate $1 to Harvesters on behalf of every presenting blood donor who registers online.

The need for blood is ongoing. More than 3,500 blood donations and 760 donated platelet units are needed each week to meet patient need. The Community Blood Center strongly urges individuals who feel healthy and well to make an appointment to donate.

Extra safety precautions are being taken at donation sites to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All donors are asked to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. A full list of safety protocols can be found at savealifenow.org.

Donors can register at savealifenow.org/save1feed1. There are certain requirements to donate blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good overall health. Donors can be 16 years old with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal prior to donating blood.

Appointments are strongly recommended. Walk-ins will only be accepted as capacity allows.
