The Lee’s Summit City Council met October 22 to discuss these issues.
Amtrak ADA Station Improvements
Council moved to second reading an ordinance authorizing the execution of a consent letter with the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) for ADA station improvements at the Amtrak station located at 220 SE Main St. Amtrak is committed to ensuring the rail station is accessible to all passengers and has conducted a property survey and ADA assessment of the station. Amtrak will construct the required ADA improvements that will include concrete curb and gutter, reinstallation of brick pavers, portion of a curb ramp, ADA parking spaces and new lighting controls inside an existing electric pedestal enclosure.
Raintree Lake Special Use Permit Renewal
Council gave initial approval to a special use permit renewal request for the continued operation of the Raintree Lake maintenance facility, located at 504 SW 163rd St. The 5,000-square-foot building is specifically used for maintenance equipment storage for the Raintree Lake neighborhood and would continue to do so under the special use permit renewal. Based on the demonstrated history of compliance with all use conditions associated with the special use permit, since the inception of the use in 2003, the 10-year SUP renewal was amended to a time period of 20 years. It will expire on August 13, 2033.
Middle Big Creek Sewer System
Council passed a resolution authorizing the issuance of an additional $12 million in revenue bonds to cover increased costs for acquiring, constructing, improving or extending the Middle Big Creek subdistrict sewer system. Together with the previously authorized $106 million, the $118 million in improvements will include additional sewer lines, installation of meters and expansion of the Middle Big Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The next meeting is November 12.
