Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and the City of Lee’s Summit for the Fire Department to assist with a firefighter academy for high school students. The Fire Department would agree to loan equipment, be guest instructors for classes and allow use of its facilities. Supplementing instruction and allowing the school district to use the Fire Department’s facilities and equipment would expose students to training in firefighting skills and to future employment possibilities with the City.
