On Tuesday, dirt was turned at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lee’s Summit Commerce Center. Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council was joined by representatives from Scannell Properties, Olsson Associates, Kadean Construction, and Newmark Zimmer, among others, to celebrate the momentous occasion.
Lee’s Summit Commerce Center is the first bulk Class A speculative industrial development in Lee’s Summit, Missouri with modern industrial amenities such as a cross-dock operation and 32- foot to 36-foot clear heights. The 781,000 square foot project is located on 75 acres just west of NE Douglas Street and NE Tudor Road, in close proximity to I-470 and 50 highway.
“We feel like with this project we’re able to cater to a number of different types of companies,” said Cam Duff, Director of Development at Scannell properties. “We have three different types of buildings to give flexibility to those users and try to meet a range of different needs.”
In April, Newmark Zimmer and Scannell Properties announced the first completed lease at Lee’s Summit Commerce Center. The lease, totaling 215,730 square feet, will take half of building A, a 430,000 square foot cross-dock facility, planned for completion later this year.
“The City Council saw this opportunity for high quality industrial, as well as the job and economic benefits from these properties,” said Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird. “I’m really proud of the direction we’re going.”
The new facilities can accommodate tenants from 30,000 to 200,000 plus square feet. Building A is a 430,000 square foot cross-dock, building B is a 238,000 square foot single-load, and building C is a 113,000 square foot single-load. All three buildings are currently under construction and final construction is slated to be complete first quarter 2023.
“This logistics park with 3 varying sized speculative buildings fits well with our Strategic Plan for the City of Lee’s Summit,” said Rick McDowell, President and CEO of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council. This has been a long-term goal of our organization to have available buildings to market.
