Lee’s Summit sent their two best girls golfers to the MSHSSA High School State Golf Championship in Bolivar, Missouri October 21st & 22nd to play at Silo Ridge Golf Club. Bridgette Secrist, a senior at Lee’s Summit West and Harrison Clemmons, a sophomore at Lee’s Summit North were the only girls from the three LSR7 high schools who qualified to play at state during sectionals held at Winterstone Golf Course last week.
Coach Bret Wagner who is in his first season as the head golf coach at Lee’s Summit West along with assistant coach Michael Schieber were proud to see Bridgette, one of their two senior girls, make it to the state championship. Lee’s Summit North coaches Kevin Harrison and Matt Bolch had a feeling Harrison would be going to state early on in the season. The coaches noted that both girls spent a significant amount of time at the course practicing and playing in summer tournaments preparing for the high school golf season.
Bridgette is a two-time all-conference and all-district golfer with this being Harrison’s first year as all-Conference and all-district. This will be both Harrison and Bridgette‘s first appearance at the state championship. Monday’s weather was brutal after hours of tornado warnings and heavy rain overnight kept the girls awake for hours and caused delayed start times. Both days they battled high winds, low temperatures and long days on the course. Silo Ridge proved to be challenging for Bridgette and Harrison but the girls persevered and expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to represent their school at the state championship.
