This 1941 picture of teacher Virginia Clark’s fourth grade class is one of several pictures featured in a new temporary exhibit at the Lee’s Summit History Museum.

Museum volunteer Pat Gore researched and created this exhibit of Lee’s Summit Schools from 1872-1949. Gore has developed exhibits previously on the history of various schools that consolidated into R-7 School District in 1950.

The first exhibit was the rural schools, often one room schools. Then she displayed the WPA Schools — Mason, Hazel Grove and Greenwood. Now the current exhibit is Lee’s Summit Schools 1872-1942, prior to consolidation into R-7.

The public is invited to visit the museum and see the rest of the story. The History Museum is located at 220 SW Main Street in downtown Lee’s Summit. Museum hours are Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
