Coming into Kansas City the Denver Broncos were riding a two-game winning streak thanks largely to the play of their rookie Quarterback Drew Lock. Since being named the team’s starting QB for the Dec. 1 game against LA Chargers, Lock had led the team to a 2-0 record and threw for five touchdowns.

Sunday’s game began with snow already on the field and more fell during the contest as both teams battled to keep their respective winning streaks going. Following the first quarter Lock was 4 of 5 passing and the Chiefs led the game just 6-0 thanks to one touchdown and a failed point after attempt. The Broncos would score in the second quarter thanks place kicker Brandon McManus who hit a 32-yard field goal just after the two minute warning. That would be it for the Broncos who went on to lose the game 23-3.

Lock’s final numbers in the game found 208 yards passing on 18 completions. The longest completion on the day for Lock was a 43-yard pass to fellow rookie and Broncos Tight End Noah Fant. Lock threw for one interception which went to a Kansas City Chief rookie Juan Thornhill.

Following the loss Lock talked about the weather conditions at Arrowhead Stadium “It was snowing, it snowed a lot and it snowed hard.” On the outcome Lock stated, “It is disappointing, but it does not have anything to do with coming home. When you come out with a loss, you are never going to be excited.” Lock was asked about the reality of playing in his hometown, “Having the chance to play here was awesome. Obviously you would like to win but I don’t think this is the last time I will be visiting Arrowhead.”

After his team’s win Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke about Drew Lock “He has a great career ahead of him.” Reid later mentioned Lock again as he spoke about Denver’s first year head coach in Vic Fangio “A good hire for the division and he’s got a young quarterback.”

While Lock leaves town with a loss he still has a winning record as a starting quarterback and has the backing of teammates and coaches. In fact Lock’s great start has given way to a new saying back home in Denver calling this month “Drewcember.” Next week Lock returns to his home field in Denver when the Broncos host the Detroit Lions at 3:05 p.m. central time. For now Lock has plenty to talk about after playing in his first snow game against his hometown team.
