The Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra has announced the selection of Karen Schuler as its new Executive Director, effective January 1.
Schuler joined the symphony staff in 2022 and has recently focused on strategic planning and community relations. She previously served as Director of Community Engagement for the United Way of Greater Kansas City and as an executive leader at GEHA, retiring in 2019 as Vice President, Corporate Communications and External Affairs. Schuler is an active community volunteer with experience at several local non-profits. At the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, she chaired the Board of Directors and chaired foundation strategic initiatives in job skills training and affordable housing.
“As we move forward with our new strategic plan, the symphony is committed to continued musical excellence, engaging our growing audience, and expanding our impact,” said LSSO Board Chair Mike Roark. “Karen and our leadership team are excited to work with cultural, civic and educational partners to make that happen.”
The Lee’s Summit Symphony was founded in 2003 by Russ Berlin and Phyllis Hamilton. With more than 100 musicians, music director Kirt Mosier currently conducts four concerts each year to sell-out crowds at John Knox Pavilion in Lee’s Summit. The next concert is Watercolor Odyssey at 7 p.m. on March 15.
