PRESS RELEASE
The City of Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is aware that KC Water has been unable to meet treatment technique requirements due to recent floodwaters and storm runoff. During winter and spring months, the City of Lee’s Summit purchases a majority of our water supply from the City of Independence, Mo. The City of Independence draws their water from wells and subsequently, their water treatment processes have not been impacted by the recent flooding events. The City of Lee’s Summit has not purchased water from KC Water since March 21 and plans to continue to purchase water from the City of Independence until all concerns have been addressed.
Although the state of Missouri considers this a nonemergency, the City will continue to monitor the situation with both KC Water and the City of Independence. Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is fully committed to providing reliable and safe drinking water for our residents and customers.
