The energy and enthusiasm of post-season play was on display this past week at Lee’s Summit West High School. Titans stadium was the host site for a Class 4, District 7 girls soccer tourney that brought eight teams to the field to compete for a district title. In addition to all three Lee’s Summit Schools playing in the tournament traditional powers St. Teresa’s and Notre Dame De Sion were among those looking to advance in the state tournament.
The district tourney began on Saturday, May 14 with four games and all four of them ended in a shutout. LS West ended the day with an 11-0 win over Raytown while LS North began the day with a 3-0 win over Ray-Pec. In between was the Lee’s Summit Tigers shutout of Belton 8-0. All three Lee’s Summit teams and St. Teresa’s all moved on to the semi-final round.
The tourney continued on Tuesday, May 17 with a pair of games. The first semi-final game saw top seed LS West shutout rival LS North 2-0. The Titans scored a single goal in each half on the way to the win. Senior midfielder Greycen Erisman scored one of the Titans goal to go along with her three-assist effort in the team’s district opener. The nightcap saw Lee’s Summit fall to St. Teresa’s by the same 2-0 count. One of the goals given up by the Tigers was by Grace Coppinger a senior defender and a TCU commit.
The only Lee’s Summit team left at this point in the Class 4 post season is the Titans who played the Stars of St. Teresa’s for the district title on Thursday night. The District 7 winner advances to play the District 8 champion on Saturday, May 28. The winner will then advance to the State Final Four.
