Missouri Department of Transportation crews worked throughout the night to clear roads from Friday’s winter weather event, but drivers should pay close attention to the forecast due to another winter storm anticipated for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
This second wave of precipitation could bring snow and ice to many parts of the state. Snow accumulations could reach up to 4 inches in the northern stretch of the state, turning to freezing rain and drizzle as the storm heads east, according to the National Weather Service.
For those who must travel Saturday night and Sunday morning, beware of slick road conditions.
- Leave early and take it slow—drive for the conditions.
- Use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, as these elevated surfaces freeze rapidly.
- Brake, steer and accelerate gently.
- Don’t drive distracted. Buckle Up Phone Down.
- Give snowplows room to work; don’t tailgate or try to pass.
In addition, take proper winter safety precautions. Make sure you have a full tank of gas, extra blankets and gloves, and provisions like water and snacks. If you encounter car troubles or are involved in a crash, please remain in your vehicle.
