On Saturday, Nov. 2 a number of boys soccer district tournaments began around the Kansas City metro area. Four soccer teams from Lee’s Summit kicked off their post-season with three of them coming away with a win. The district champions will be crowned by Friday, Nov. 8.
All three LSR7 teams were in the Class 4, District 6 tourney played at Rockhurst High School. LS North fell to Carthage 3-0 in the opening round. The Broncos finish the year at 7-15. Both Lee’s Summit and LS West advanced to the semifinal round thanks to a pair of victories. The Tigers raced past Joplin 6-2 and LS West Titans outlasted Ray-Pec 1-0. This meant a semifinal game on Tuesday, Nov. 5 between the two rivals. The Tigers outdueled their rivals by taking a 1-0 win. The Titans season ends with at 15-7. The number three seeded Tigers, now 11-8, advanced to play a district title game against tourney host Rockhurst.
The Class 2, District 7 tourney played at Center High School saw top seed St. Michael’s have a bye in the opening round. The Guardians easily won their semifinal game 5-0 over Harrisonville. A title game against KC Northeast was next on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Guardians head coach Rob Putthoff admitted, “We have our work cut out for us in our district with several other strong teams in Barstow, Harrisonville and Northeast KC. Putthoff says, “We are relatively healthy and hope to have the opportunity to make a post-season run.” The Guardians scored only one goal, and it was enough in a 1-0 victory over Northeast. The Guardians are now 18-4 on the season and are district champions.
The Class 3, District 7 tourney played at Raytown High School saw Summit Christian eliminate Raytown South 8-0 in the opening around. The Eagles scored another shutout winning 4-0 over host Raytown in a semifinal round game. The number two seeded Eagles played Pembroke Hill for the title on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Eagles came into the game at 16-5-1. The season ended for the Eagles following a 2-0 loss to the Raiders.
