The top-seeded Lee’s Summit West Titans ended the Class 5 District 7 tournament on top thanks to sweeping Ray-Pec in the title match held on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Titans girls volleyball team improved to 21-10 with the win and now look forward to a Class 5 sectional round match against the Liberty Blue Jays. The Titans and Blue Jays will meet on Saturday, Nov. 2 for a chance to advance to the Class 5 State Final Four.
The Titans talent was on display in each round of the district tournament as the Titans swept each match 3-0. Up first was a quarterfinal round match vs number eight seed Joplin. Then it was onto a semifinal match against an upset-minded St. Teresa’s team. The Titans defeated the Stars 25-17, 25-21 and finally 25-23. The Titans had an easier time three nights later when they hosted number three seed Ray-Pec for the district title. The Titans won by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and finally 25-10 to clinch the championship.
Titans head coach Jennifer Morgan on the Titans, “It is a really fun group to coach.” Morgan is looking ahead to what’s next for her team, “We are very excited to have the opportunity to play again on Saturday.”
With one more win the Titans will secure a berth in the Class 5 State Final Four which will be played the weekend of November 8-9 inside the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. This will be the 50th year a girls volleyball state champion is crowned in Missouri.
