The high school football season will come to a close over the Dec. 6-7 weekend with state champions crowned in all six classes. With the season ending that means post-season honors are being handed out by a number of different sources.
In the Kansas City metro area that means the annual Simone Awards being presented to a few talented players who recently enjoyed a big season. One of the awards, the Otis Taylor award, goes to the best wide receiver or tight end in the area.
Lee’s Summit North football player Isaiah Mozee is listed as a 6’1″ – 202 lb. Senior Wide Receiver and now you can add one more item to the list, a 2024 Otis Taylor Award winner. Mozee a senior for the Broncos football team was announced as a winner of the annual award on a telecast aired by KSHB-TV 41 sports on Monday, Dec. 2.
LS North Broncos head coach Jason Rogers said, “It’s a huge honor” for Mozee and the program. Rogers admitted Mozee is “the first award winner at LS North.” Winning the award according to Rogers “speaks volumes about him.” Rogers describes Mozee as “a relentless worker.”
Despite missing two games this season due to injury Mozee completed the year with 60 receptions for 903 yards and 13 touchdowns. Mozee was also effective in the team’s ground game adding 52 carries for 420 yards and 7 touchdowns to his total. Mozee displayed his speed on special teams helping the Broncos with 3 punt return touchdowns.
The award is named after Otis Taylor a former wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs who played from 1965 to 1975. Taylor is in the Chiefs Hall of Fame and was a member of the Super Bowl IV championship team in 1970.
Mozee has made plans to attend the University of Nebraska and play college football. Mozee is set to graduate from LS North this month and begin his time spent as a Husker in January.
