Frequently Asked Questions
Registration
How can I find registration dates and times?
Annual registration/enrollment dates and times can be viewed on the district web page or you can call the school directly for dates and times.
How can I receive additional help with my PowerSchool password?
Please contact your school for assistance with your PowerSchool portal.
What are the registration requirements for my student who will start Kindergarten?
Kindergarten enrollment is held each spring in every attendance area. To be enrolled in Kindergarten, a child must be five years of age before August 1st. Proof of age, immunization records, and proof of residency are required for children entering school for the first time.
What are the registration requirements for my student who is enrolling in the LSR7 School District for the first time?
In addition to the requirements listed above a new student must provide:
• Each year, all students must complete a Basis of Admission through online enrollment.
• According to state law, documentation of immunizations are required before a student can be enrolled. A copy of a complete official immunization record from the former school, health department, or doctor’s office must be provided.
• All new students, grades 1-12, must complete a Safe Schools Act Statement.
• A copy of an official birth certificate or other official document must be provided with the following information:
Child’s Legal Name
Child’s Date of Birth
Parent(s) Name
To obtain a birth certificate, contact the state in which the student was born. In Missouri, contact Jackson County Health Department at (816) 881-4424.
Parental Rights and Guardianship
As a court-appointed guardian, what documentation do I need to provide during registration?
Any student wishing to enroll who is domiciled with a guardian residing in the school district will submit a legal document showing court appointed guardianship. Exceptions will be made in adherence to federal/state regulations.
What is the LSR7 School District’s procedure for sharing student information and parental decisions in regards to custody?
The custody of a child is presumed to be held by the child’s parents unless a court order states otherwise. Even in divorce situations, it is presumed that both parents will have joint legal custody of the child. That is, they will share equally in all important decisions such as medical and educational. If one parent informs the school district that the other parent has been denied custody or visitation, that parent must provide a copy of the court document as proof.
Residency
If I live in the City of Lee’s Summit, is my residence automatically included within the LSR7 School District’s boundaries?
Not necessarily. If you have questions or if you’d like to know which school your child will attend, check the district website.
What are the residency requirements? Who mandates these requirements?
Board of Education policy and state law require that all students attending the LSR7 School District be permanently domiciled and living within the boundaries of the school district. Students must live with their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
How often do I need to provide proof of residency? When is the deadline?
All parents or guardians of elementary and early childhood students are required to provide proof of residency during enrollment/registration, scheduled during late July/early August. Residency verification is required during these enrollment/registration sessions before students will be assigned to a classroom for the school year. Providing residency verification late July/early August will help LSR7 staff prepare for school and will streamline the elementary Meet Your Teacher Night, scheduled a few days before the first day of school.
All secondary students’ parents or guardians are required to provide proof of LSR7 School District residency during middle school and high school enrollments, scheduled for late July/early August.
How can I provide proof of residency if I’m unable to use a utility bill?
An existing rental/lease agreement will be accepted as proof of residency only if all utilities are included in the rental/lease agreement (such that the parent/guardian is unable to produce a utility bill). The rental/lease agreement must include the following:
Date of agreement.
Name of Lessee and Lessor.
Address of Lessee and Lessor.
Phone number of Lessee and Lessor.
Signature of Lessee and Lessor.
Document states that all utilities are included.
A new lease closing document reflecting that the parent/guardian has taken possession of property located within the LSR-7 district within the past 30 days. The rental/lease agreement must include the following:
Date of agreement.
Name of Lessee and Lessor.
Address of Lessee and Lessor.
Phone number of Lessee and Lessor.
Signature of Lessee and Lessor.
Document states that all utilities are included.
If both the student AND parent(s)/guardian(s) are living with a district resident, notarized district forms (R1 and R2) are required with the resident’s proof of residency. These standard forms are available at each school’s office and original notarized forms must be returned to the school.
